The Pizza Glen is one of our area’s longest standing purveyors of pizza and other culinary delicacies. This establishment has a proud and colorful history that spans the memories of multiple generations. The Pizza Glen, simply named after being opened in GLEN-wood opened in April of 1980 by two partners Mike Rowan and Tom Calhoun with little fanfare. They had 4 tables and brought the salt and pepper shakers in from home. As Mike told me: “We opened on a wing and a prayer!” Unfortunately, only a couple of years later Mr. Calhoun was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident leaving Mike as the sole proprietor. Let’s take a moment to honor the memory of “Tommy” Calhoun.
When Pizza Glen started, the railroad line was still running and one actually had to cross the tracks (with no warning lights and barrier) to get there. But people did come. Back in the early days we still had winters so there were an abundance of skiers in the winter and the food was well... GOOD! - and it was consistent. The ski business brought in folks from out of town and expatriots of the region who fell in love with the pizza. Kissing Bridge skiing traffic was a key to the early growth of the business. It became a favorite stop for skiers either to grab a quick lunch before hitting the slopes or to get a fast dinner after skiing or even unwind after the day at the bar for a few cold ones.
When the business first opened, Mike and Joanie’s son, Mick was only 13 years old. They have 2 children, Mick and daughter, Corrine who have become an absolutely integral part of the business and who, over time, have come to run the business. Corrine has developed a special new signature wing sauce that has people raving. It is called the “A Little Bit of Everything” Sauce It is a secret recipe that combines all of their flavors. It has been carefully formulated and tested in the Pizza Glen Underground Culinary Laboratory (P.G.U.C.L.), located in an undisclosed location for national security reasons. It is a terrific and fresh approach to wing sauce. I highly recommend trying it. The Pizza Glen has a full menu including their famous pizza and white pizza along with wings, specialty wings and “wing dings”. They also serve fingers, tacos, subs, a great line up of sandwiches, wraps, salads and sides - something tasty and satisfying for everyone and all at great prices. Having been around for 32 years, it’s likely that you have, at some point or another been into “The Glen” but have you been there lately? Do you recall their cozy dining room and those comfy booths? the Juke box and the small but welcoming bar that serves beer and wine? If not, perhaps it’s time you rediscovered Pizza Glen. Bring the whole family down for a satisfying treat!

About the “Mug Club”
Through the 80’s Pizza Glen offered $.25 draft beers and had a well known “Mug Club”. You could join the mug club and get your own personalized beer mug which allowed you to get 2 extra ounces of fine malted beverage with each mug for the same price regular patrons paid. They built up to over 700 mugs! Mike showed me shelves and shelves of them. They go all the way down the steps into the basement and older ones are even packed in boxes. No lie, some older patrons who have since passed on, specifically requested to be buried with their mugs.. and were.
